5 Easy Tips on How to Stay Organized This Semester

This semester is well underway and if you’re like me then you probably have a million other things going on. From class assignments to extracurricular activities, and let’s not forget about work; your head is probably spinning. It may seem a little scary but with a few organizational tips, you’ll be calm, cool and organized throughout the school year.

  1. Set goals for yourself.

Staying motivated during the school year is tough. You’ll want to just stay in bed all day and catch up on all your favorite shows on Hulu. That may sound nice but we know that can’t actually happen. One thing that I tend to do is set goals for myself. Setting goals for yourself is a great way to motivate yourself and stay focused on what needs to get done. When setting goals, make sure that not only are they specific but also realistic. Do not set goals that cannot be accomplished. For example, if you struggle waking up in the morning, it wouldn’t be smart to take a 8 am class. Don’t forget to reward yourself after achieving these goals; you deserve it.

2. Make a schedule and stick to it.

Having a schedule in college is essential but sticking to it can be a bit of a challenge. When you have a set schedule it makes things a little easier. Map out your whole days or weeks from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed. If you’re able to stick to your schedule you’ll notice how relieved you feel from worry and pressure. Also, having a set schedule lessens the chance of procrastination.

3. Write down everything. Literally, EVERYTHING.

There’s no way you’re going to remember every single thing going on in your life unless you write it down. Buy a nice planner and write down all of your upcoming assignments and events. When you write down important things it’s a reminder of what to focus on. Often times we get so caught up in all that we have to do that we tend to forget certain things. Writing this vital information can save you a ton of time and energy when you’re trying to get things done. It’s much easier to have things written down instead of struggling to remember.

4. Keep a clean workspace.

If you’re anything like me then you probably tend to just throw everything on your desk and unintentionally let it get a little messy. It becomes super hard to concentrate on getting my work done when my desk is cluttered. Take time out to make sure your area is clean and watch how much more focused you become. Remember, a clean work space is a happy work space.

5. Get some rest.

As stressful as college may be, please remember to get some sleep. How can you get organized if you’re always so tired? It’s important to keep your body well rested so that you have enough energy to things done.
